The Geneseo Village and Town Historian is responsible for collecting, researching, and education related to Geneseo’s rich heritage. Current projects include completing the latest book in the History of Geneseo series.
The purpose of the Office of the County Historian is to collect, preserve and interpret Livingston County’s documentary heritage and manage historic records for the public.
The County Historian provides guidance and support to the 17 Town Historians of Livingston County, assists the general public on research projects, publishes a quarterly newsletter “Out of the Archives”, sets up displays on topics of historic significance, attends events, and is available to give talks on subjects of historical interest to various groups.
The research center is open to the public and has an extensive collection of books on local history, newspapers on microfilm (1824 – present), census and naturalization records, veteran’s files, photographs, maps, genealogy files, cemetery surveys, and various other archival materials pertaining to the history of Livingston County.
